Resetting the PMU, as Chris suggested, has given my PowerBook the appearance of normality. The problem with Apple Mail is not a mail problem but an Internet problem. Going into network diagnostics I find that the computer is not connected to the Internet. It suggested rebooting my router, which I did and this did not solve the problem.
My iMac and my iPad are still connected to the Internet so I am assuming that resetting the PMU has somehow removed the settings I require to connect the PowerBook to the Internet. I cannot for the life of me remember what to do next. I really do not want to ring BT and spend hours on the phone because all their support staff seem to know nothing of Macs. Can anyone suggest a sensible next step. Martin Sent from my iPad -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Sussex Mac User Group" group.
