Thanks for that Ranulph. The only issue I would have with that is that I really would prefer a 15" screen (although I find my iPad's screen remarkably easy to see).

When you decide to go for a new machine make sure you consider the Air book. Quite remarkable.

Hi Sam,

That seems to have done the trick as far as Internet access is concerned. I am obliged for the advice. Sadly the machine is still exhibiting terminal tendencies. It looks as if the video is knackered, which I believe would mean a new logic board.

Looking at the age of the PowerBook I fear that spending any money to repair it would not be a brilliant idea.

With luck I can extract the data from the hard disk and that's more valuable than the computer.

It's been a delightful machine to own and I shall miss it like mad. Not really the time to be buying a replacement.

Best wishes,

Martin

Hi Martin

That error message would suggest your mac's unable to connect to the server, could be either a temporary failure or a problem with your internet connection. One thing to make sure is that you restart after setting your date & time back to normal. If you start up with an odd time, say 1970, your computer won't be able to unlock your keychain, so won't be able to access any saved passwords, making SSL communication difficult.

Try restarting or logging out and back in, see if that helps.

Also you could use mail.me.com rather than mail.mac.com
