Wow, Thanks for all the information. I knew this group would be worth
joining. I'll now have to come to a meeting and meet everyone.
I have been tossing around the idea of starting a wifi consulting firm
in Phoenix to get more people aware of wireless, and building hotspots
with free access. I was going to use either the open brick or soekris
hardware and install a captive portal and have everything link back to
me for hosting of mysql and such. But speakeasy.net looks like a great
solution also.
If anyone has suggestions on starting this endeavor I would like to
hear them.
For my home use I am currently using Cox Business DSL (yuck) So I am
looking for DSL in my area that doesn't mind me sharing it. I did a
survey of the area and there is no wifi, from what I can see within a
mile se-rounding the house. So I think an omni will be my first start.
Does anyone think I should use an amp or do they cause too much noise
on the line? By the way, the house comes pre wired, and I had them
upgrade the attic with its own power supply also. :-) I wish I could
put the antennas outside though. But that is a no no to the HOA. Once
this is up and running, it will be time for the new Cafe and Community
center they are building.
Again thanks,
Kelley
