Kelly,

If you have more than 2 or 3 neighbors that can share your connection
you may want to consider a better solution than SpeakEasy. We offer a
gateway appliance called Netometer. With SpeakEasy you get 50% of the
revenue collected after 30 days or more. With Netometer, you get 100%
of the revenue immediately upon user purchase.

Here is what we offer at Prepay Network Technology. www.prepaynt.com

We provide a complete system solution for a fixed fee of
$40/month/Netometer. You collect 100% of the revenue generated by your
hotspot. You can use Netometer on any WAN connection type (cable, DSL,
satellite, T1, 802.16 fixed wireless, etc.) and since Netometer is a
stand alone alliance, it does not require a PC at the hotspot location
to run the software. One Netometer can support many Access Points to
cover sectored areas with directional antennas. You can easily setup a
cell with a large radius to cover many homes or businesses. Netometer
is also fully integrated with PayPal to enable your users to pay for
service with on-line credit card purchases.

You (the owner) set up a PayPal account at no cost to you. This takes
only a few minute to do on-line. Users of your system can make time or
byte purchases (the choice is set by you) or monthly recurring
subscriptions. All the money goes directly and immediately into your
PayPal account. Through your PayPal account you can transfer the money
free to your regular bank account at any time. PayPal charges only 2.2%
+ $0.30/tranaction (this is a very low transaction fee for on-line
credit card purchases) and unlike most banking merchant accounts, there
are no monthly fees or cancellation charges. In summary, our system
offers a very simple, quick, low cost way for you to receive credit card
purchases.

You give us your Logo and we brand all Users portal pages with your
brand (ie. "Kelly's Neighborhood WiFi Service"). New Users must agree
to a terms of use agreement, to protect you from liabilities of illegal
activities (child porn, terrorist activities, spam generation, etc.)
conducted by the users of your system.

We give you the ability to make cash sales by issuing PIN codes sold to
Users. This is done by using a secure web portal, that you and your
authorized sales clerks can use. This is included in our service fees,
you keep all the revenue from cash sales.

Netometer gateway provides full firewall protection from the WAN
connection, for you and your users. Netometer sells for $500 each, and
does not include the WiFi AP. You can use almost any WiFi AP as long as
it doesn’t NAT the user IP addresses. The Netometer uses the unique IP
addresses for each user to control access and meter usage.

Prepay Network Technology will be your system eyes and ears, and notify
you of any system problems. This is included in our $40/month/Netometer
fee. You will also be able to keep track of your system using the
secure web portal provided to you as an owner. With this web portal you
can change your rates, see your users, see your Netometers (if you have
multiple locations) and make changes to settings. You can also see how
many cash sales are being made by your sales clerks.

Check out our web site at www.prepaynt.com for more details. Even a
small "hotspot" charging low rates can recover the cost of equipment
within a few months.

Jim

Subject: Re: [SOCALWUG] Home Wireless

Wow, Thanks for all the information. I knew this group would be worth
joining. I'll now have to come to a meeting and meet everyone.

I have been tossing around the idea of starting a wifi consulting firm
in Phoenix to get more people aware of wireless, and building hotspots
with free access. I was going to use either the open brick or soekris
hardware and install a captive portal and have everything link back to
me for hosting of mysql and such. But speakeasy.net looks like a great
solution also.

If anyone has suggestions on starting this endeavor I would like to
hear them.

For my home use I am currently using Cox Business DSL (yuck) So I am
looking for DSL in my area that doesn't mind me sharing it. I did a
survey of the area and there is no wifi, from what I can see within a
mile se-rounding the house. So I think an omni will be my first start.
Does anyone think I should use an amp or do they cause too much noise
on the line? By the way, the house comes pre wired, and I had them
upgrade the attic with its own power supply also. :-) I wish I could
put the antennas outside though. But that is a no no to the HOA. Once
this is up and running, it will be time for the new Cafe and Community
center they are building.

Again thanks,

Kelley
