If your relay takes 100 msec to switch then you need to replace it,
it's way too slow by over a magnitude.

I was not talking about the sampling rate, but the gains of the
amplifiers in the card, switching the audio out from the speaker to
the line out, and switching from line input to microphone input. If
all of that takes too long you will end up with artifacts in the
audio going to the transmitter or excessive delays in switching, a
condition not desired.

The Delta 44 solves the problem by having separate ports for the
microphone and Radio IQ input each with their optimum gain set so you
don't have to go around changing anything on the sound card. Other
cards like the Santa Cruz are fast but only 16 bit's and that cuts
down your dynamic range.

I'm not saying it can't be overcome, but those are issues that have
to be dealt with, and the easiest way to do it is with a 4x4 sound
card or two sound cards.

Sound cards were not designed to be re-configured very often so they
have skimped in that area, after all a typical use is to set it a
certain way and it remains that way.

All these issues are not important in a receiver but have to be
considered in a transceiver.

I fail to see why doing the same thing over and over and getting the
same results every time is insanity: I've almost proved it isn't;
only a few more tests now and I'm sure results will differ this time ...
