I don't know much about programming, but I know that field order has
only two options, so it should be easy for me to patch the softdevice
code to see if this has any effect... I'm just wondering if that would
mean that the programs which do not show these artifacts - hbo dramas,
films - would suddenly start misbehaving.

I've been considering searching for a cheap widescreen CRT tele, seems
to me everyone's buying over priced "HD-ready" flat screens at the
moment, so I should be able to pick one up for not too much money. I'd
expect all these problems to disappeer seeing as there would be no
scaling whatsoever.
