"I am sad to say, I can only see it as a huge mistake now." dont look at it this way, you learned 3d, you enjoyed doing so. now get a job on your skills, knowledge, and likability... if you so happen to get to use softimage, great. otherwise you can annoy your co workers how you would do it 'this way' or 'that way' in softimage. :)
