A few moments later Commander Joe Garibaldi arrives.

"Commander Dais, hello. I am Commander Joseph Garibaldi with the Inspector
Generals office. I understand that you have an assignment for me..."

"Thank you for coming, Commander. You were recommended to me by Admiral
Renaud. Please have a seat," indicated the XO.

"Thank for, Commander."

"We have had a situation come up where it is imperative for a Starfleet
officer to work with the Bajoran Chief of Staff on an investigation of one
of the Bajoran's diplomatic entourage."

"Oh this is very interesting... How did this all start?"

"It started yesterday. I was called down to deal with a situation in
Customs. A Bajoran diplomat had been searched by two of the customs
officers on duty at the time. Apparantly, there had been a mix up with
his paperwork, and he admitted that he had an illegal personal weapon on his
person. As you can imagine, the diplomat was not exactly the most friendly
after the illegal search. I convinced him to turn over the personal weapon
to me and Security, and he went on his way."

"That does not sound all that bad. Why do you need me to help investigate a
small weapons violation that he confessed to?"

"Well, that is not all that happened," said the Trill with a sigh. "I
asked the Customs officials what they found. It was clear to me that they
had found something in the scan that had intensified the situation. After
some discussion, they told me that he had a dismembered human hand on him."

"Well that changes everything. Why was he not arrested or at least
detained in quarters until a preliminary investigation was conducted?"

"I understand that. I thought that perhaps since we could not work on it
because of immunity, the Bajorans would be interested in it enough to
investigate the situation. They did express an interest, but I got a
feeling that they were going to try and sweep it under the rug once they
took over. They agreed that it would be prudent to work with a Starfleet
officer on it."

"You bet they will try and bury it. Good move to have some one in
Starfleet with them. At the very least they will find it hard to just blow
off. How do you want this handled? We can either do it nicely- good cop, or
another way- bad cop?"

"I must admit that I am not all that sure. That is one of the reasons I
wanted to bring someone in who knew a little more about investigative
procedures. This is more than a regular investigation. I want the
Bajorans to realize that we mean business ... that we want to know what
happened, but I don't want them put off that they run a concurrant
investigation that keeps what they find out from us. I would suggest
something down the middle."

"Perhaps we should do this together. You already know the players
involved. You could play the 'good cop' leaving the bad cop to be played by
the annoyed, arrogant, JAG/IG goon- aka me. That is if you don't have any
objections."

"I would not be opposed to that as long as you realize that I will be
learning as I go," replied Dais with a smile. "It is my understanding that
we will be working with the Ambassador's Chief of Staff, Rivik Carlo. I
would be happy to take you over to meet with him when you are ready."
