Bedru broke the  communication, then she put in a call to a friend in the
diplomatic  corps.  She wanted the lowdown on Watson, and if anyone could give
it to  her, her friend could.

After a moment, we're the face of her friend  filled the screen.  Lucien Ares
was human and was a bit older.  In his  lower 60's, actually.  He had a
friendly face the exuded charisma.   What helped was the he really did take an
interest in those around him.  He  had been in the diplomatic corps for decades
and had a pretty good working  knowledge of many of his compatriots.  In fact,
many wondered how he had  avoided selection as Secretary of State after his
many years of service.  A  smile filled his face as he realized who had called.

"Candance, it has been  some time.  How are things with you and Lorin?"

"Very well, Lucien," she replied with a warm smile.

"And Lauren?"

"She's shipping out as Chief Engineer on the Explorer.  We're very proud and
excited for her.

"That is wonderful.  It sounds like her dreams are really coming true.  It must make your heart happy."

"How are you?"

"I am doing well.  The house is a lot emptier than it used to be, but I am hoping the grandkids will be visiting soon."  Lucien paused for a moment. "I am assuming that you are calling for something other than personal reasons, considering the time.  What can I do for you?"

Bedru grew serious.  "I need to talk with you, privately.  When could I stop
by?"

Lucien was concerned about her seriousness.  Candace was never one to exaggerate.  "I can be right over.  Are you in San Francisco or on the station?"

(Bedru?)

"I just need to arrange for transport.  I will be there shortly."

=========================
A half hour later, Lucien arrived.  He was concervatively dressed in slacks and a sweater.  He rang the chimes to Bedru's office.

(Bedru?)
