>Taking the hand, "Thank you for seeing me, Admiral. I am in need of your
>advice." His tone was quite professional, but hinted at a problem that he
>was wrestling with.
She gestured to the chair as she went back around the desk and took her
own. He had a pair of brass ones coming to see an Admiral unannounced and
uncalled for. "I'll do my best," she said.
>"As you may remember, sir, I am leading an internal investigation into
>suspected corruption of Starfleet officers. I have come upon some
>information that is a bit disturbing, at the very least on a personal
>level, but it has some major implications for Starfleet Command. "
"What might that be?" she asked.
>"In my investigations I have turned up evidence that a few high ranking
>officers at SF Command are working with, or at least on behalf of, the
>Bajoran Ambassador. The Bajoran Ambassador, and certain members of his
>personal staff, have been linked to various acts of organized violence,
>theft of surplus Starfleet material, mis-use of Starfleet vessels, and
>what could be espionage. One of these officers is a relative of mine, and
>a very close personal friend of Admiral Lasiter. He is my uncle, Rear
>Admiral Marcus Garibaldi.", Joe stopped there. He did not what to go on
>without letting the Admiral think on what he was saying.
Kit did not like Marcus Garibaldi, and she doubted that was a big
secret. Was that why he was coming to her? She wondered what relationship
they had, and kept her face carefully schooled, showing
nothing. This news was confirmation of some things she had suspected.
She leaned forward slightly, curiously. "Why arrre you telling *me* this,
Commanderrr?" Was he afraid of speaking out for fear of his uncle? That
would make sense. But why her?
"Well, sir, there are three reasons actually. For starters Commander M'Rrenn
trusted you, and he was a very good man. Second, Admiral Lasiter said that to
ensure that he did not influence the anticorruption investigation, that I was
to send all reports to Admiral t'Llhweiir and yourself. Thirdly, to answer the
unasked question why not Admiral t'Llhweiir, well it's like this. I know that
the CinC trusts you. He appreciates your judgement and unique point of view.
Admiral t'Llhweiir has her hands full with running Intell and serving as acting
chief of staff."
