"In a nutshell, he said he wantedbasic information about the Council ambasssadors, how theyinfluence the station's staffand Starfleet Command, and what kind of relationshipsthey have with station personnel."
Chase rubbed his chin for a moment as he considered what Jaime described. It was not an easy assignment, but not an impossible one either. It would take some time, though.
"Look, I get the impression that Richard didn't give you any more to work with than he did me."

"The more you work with him, the faster you will come to realize that Richard likes to keep things close to the hip. He only gives you the least amount of information you need to complete your assignment." Chase almost felt bad for Jaime. He remembered what it was like when he first started in the cell. It wasn't easy. He still couldn't say that Richard really trusted him. "The good thing is that it gives us a chance to really impress him."
"I'd be satisfied if he'd just cut me some slack. He only puts up with me because he needs James."
Chase laughed. "I wouldn't expect him to lighten up any time soon. I have been with him for four years, and he still doesn't treat me much better than he does you." He placed his napkin on his plate since he was finished eating and lean back. "He is also more impressed with you than you think. You wouldn't be a part of the team or sent on any missions unles she thought you could handle it."
Jaime's expression said how little she believed that. "Actually, I wondered if he wasn't hoping I'd get caught."
A smile spread across Chase's lips as he considered her comment. He liked the way she thought. Her suspicious nature would protect her. "There is not too much of a chance of that. Richard may not like many people, but he would not endanger the Brotherhood by allowing one of his people to be caught. The risk would be too great."
