"I hope that you have more to base these charges on besides recent events,
Lieutenant. Mr. Leaver and his family are a well-connected family on Earth,"
responded the attorney.
Torgath could not believe that Greene was taking this approach. He didn't
care if Leaver's father was President of Earth. He and Geb had captured him
in the act of holding Commander Shevab hostage and aiming a weapon at him.
"That may be the case, Mr. Greene, but I doubt they would be thrilled with
the idea that Adam was found holding the Chief of Engineering at gunpoint
earlier this morning. If they are that well connected, he can probably
cause them as much damage as they can try and help him." Aravis placed her
hands flat on the table. "Let's cut the games, gentlemen. I want some
answers and I want them now. What happened this morning and why?"
Leaver turned to his lawyer to see if he should speak. He had no intention
of doing so, but he knew that Greene would advise him.
Instead, Greene took the lead. "I believe that this is meant to be an
interview, Lieutenant. Perhaps we should start with you and your guards
here," he added as he waved his hand to Geb and Torgath, "asking some
questions. My client will do what he can to help you out with the answers."
Geb had had enough. This was the one part of training that he had hated.
Lawyers, in their attempts to make sure their clients' rights were
protected, sometimes made the situation a lot more complicated that it
needed to be. "Why don't you start with telling us why you paid Commander
Shevab a visit this morning, Mr. Leaver."
Greene eyed the behemoth. He was surprised to see the lower-ranking,
rock-like creature speaking. He would hav ethought that Lt. Holt would
take the lead of the questioning. While she was clearly in charge, it was
evident that others would be jumping in on the interview. He turned to his
client and nodded.
"I was just visiting Mr. Shevab. We are both in the same department,
though in different facilities. I was hoping that I could get a tour to
see how things are done up here."
"Was there any reason that you felt in necessary to try and get that
information at phaser point, Mr Leaver" asked Aravis with biting sarcasm.
It was clear that she was not quite accepting his response.
