I disagree that "hoaxes are more amusing than harmful". They waste huge amounts of time as people read through the whole things, forward them on to all their friends, then wonder if maybe they should have asked the helpdesk instead, so they call the helpdesk and waste their time, and so on. They might be funny the first three times some clueless user asks about them, then they just get really tiresome.

So perhaps you are correct, and it is time for a SARE hoax ruleset.


Since Microsoft is discontinuing support for their JVM, jdbgmgr.exe is no longer a useful file anyway.

I'd say hoaxes are more amusing than harmful.  At least they let you know
who your gullible users are.  Certainly they come at a much lower volume
than spam.

If a SARE hoax ruleset is created, please don't add it to Rules du Jour.
