Well, how about this one, which I just picked up from a fire department website today, here in Southern California:

"Sprinkler heads in the garage shall be protected against damage by approved guards"

This has been interpreted to require that recessed sprinklers must have head guards installed.

There are none listed for recessed sprinklers. Doesn't phase them a bit. When I asked how it was to be resolved, the answer was "That's your problem, not mine."

My favorite so far is the AHJ who required a stamped letter stating that the public supply could provide the required flow (about 36 gpm) for the 10 minute duration.

Hello Thom,

I am working on my first 13D system now. The problem I am having is
the water purveyor will not install a tap of less than 4" (they can be
forced to a 2 1/2" by their "policy") when there is a fire system involved.
THEN The building department wants it reviewed to 13R as they have never
dealt with a 13D system. It is on the third review...
