Charles,
Is there any reason you can't tap off the domestic service?
Or do they require a minimum 2-1/2" for that too?

Hello Mike,
They say that is not an option. It is their "policy" that if there is a
sprinkler system in the location the smallest tap "they" allow is 2 1/2",
But so far they have not put in a tap smaller than 4".

I would consider a tank and pump before I had to install a 2.5 in service.

Hello Thom,
I am working on my first 13D system now. The problem I am having is
the water purveyor will not install a tap of less than 4" (they can be
forced to a 2 1/2" by their "policy") when there is a fire system involved.
THEN The building department wants it reviewed to 13R as they have never
dealt with a 13D system. It is on the third review...

Just wondering if others are seeing excessive water demands for 13D systems
by AHJ's? We see 4 head design requirements with 0.10 Gpm/Sf for slope
ceilings over 8/12. This is the same as a 13 system in residential
occupancy, yet these two systems are not intended to provide the same level
of protection.
