Keep in mind that th exception in the code is assuming the sprinkler head has activated therefore preventing direct flame impingement.
The sprinkler spray argument goes away on the back side of the wall though. Rather than debate whether cpvc is combustible or not with your AHJ, you should transition to steel, and caulk the penetration on the back side of the wall.
