So if not that tall building, and not the rural homes in PA where there's not much point in telling the FD to hurry since the home is ash and there is no water damage since the fire service in this town advised not to sprinkler, than are we back to just sprinklering the clean and dirty linen in non-high-rise nursing homes like the good old days?
BTW, a relative reports a data center Preaction system tripped due to a false alarm, and of all things, a pinhole leak allowed water to accumulate above the ceiling, then it dropped and water entered two servers worth >$100k each. He said that sprinklers are great, but that this isn't the best application for them. Imagine that, a 13 TC member going on TV to say that tall buildings filled with old people aren't the best application for residential sprinklers. Unbeevable. I've warned you about that over-active imagination of yours in the past, George. Reminds me of something Steve Leyton and I heard said out here in San Diego, where a member of the NFPA-13 committee said on a news report that he didn't think sprinklers in a residential high rise would have any value. And no, I'm not making that up. -- PARSLEY CONSULTING Ken Wagoner, SET 760.745.6181 voice 760.745.0537 fax [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> e-mail www.ParsleyConsulting.com <http://www.ParsleyConsulting.com> website George Church wrote: > But if you'd had sprinklers when the ambulance burned, you'd have had > to not > only re-carpet, and likely a lot more of it, but also the bottom couple > inches of drywall would likely have needed replacement as well. > > Understand during the PA IRC hearings, a home builder who's a rural fire > chief noted that since it takes them 15 to 20 minutes to get to a fire, > sprinklers activated would continue to spray water on the > assumably-suppressed fire, causing water damage!
