I don't know Todd, this could be plausible.  MythBusters anyone?  I saw
what this piping looked like after a fire many years ago, it was pretty
incredible.  The building was not completed and the sprinkler system
wasn't on, so no water in the pipes, but... The CPVC expanded about 1
1/2 to 2 times its normal diameter, charred black as coal, mangled and
twisted, but still intact.  Fittings and all.  That incident sold me on
CPVC.
