It's more like a kitchen, and as far as the .16, that's what the only
available sprinkler plans show the existing density to be. I don't know
where it was derived from.

I'd be hesitant on assigning a classification on something like that without
more info OR you pick a classification based on what you know and
extensively qualify it on your design documents. If they are testing for
taste I'd assume they are cooking, are they baking, frying, boiling or
?????????? Is it more like a kitchen than a "lab" with areas similar to a
greenhouse?

.16 where did that come from?

I don't have much in the way of additional info, but they pot and incubate
potato plants and dehydrate the potatoes as well. The only available
sprinkler info on the existing system is a that the original system was
calculated with a .16 / 1500. No additional info beyond this.

Is it just taste testing? Do you have any specific information on the
processes involved?

Subject: Occupancy Classification

I have a facility that tests potatoes for flavor, texture, etc... This
particular use will be inside an existing facility where they are adding
walls and a mezzanine to create two small labs. Neither level will be over
1,100 sf with 8'6" ceilings. I'm thinking that it needs to be classified
as OH 1 having a similar function as to a "Dairy products manufacturing and
processing" facility. This is based on the Annex of NFPA 13, 2010 ed.,
A.5.3.1. Would anyone think that this should be classified differently?

Thanks,
