Aha thanks Spencer. I was just sent this too:
7.3.1.7.4* A separate additional indicating control valve, supervised in accordance with 8.16.1.1.2, shall be permitted to be installed in the riser assembly above a preaction or deluge valve to permit full function trip testing as required by NFPA 25, without flooding the system. A.7.3.1.7.4 Preaction and deluge valves should be fully trip tested wherever possible. Providing a functional trip test without waterflow does not reveal other potential problems such as obstructions and/or misaligned nozzles. thanks again, Brad -----Original Message----- From: Spencer Allen [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, August 25, 2014 10:39 AM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: two control valves in a deluge system riser? Partial Trip Test? I have installed these on pre-action and deluge before. Very useful when testing the activation pre-comissioning. Co-worker is looking at a contractor's riser detail. Systems are straight water deluge, protec-o-wire (electric activation). There is a BF control valve at the header AND one on top of the deluge valve. Exhibit 7.8, page 210 of NFPA 13 2013 handbook shows something similar. Does anyone know the reason for two control valves? thanks, Brad Casterline, NICET IV Fire Protection Division FSC, Inc.
