What he said, I've called for them on freezer systems so they can be can trip tested without filling the entire system. I have also used them on fixed water spray systems in situations where you really don't water on what your protecting unless it's on fire. Co-worker is looking at a contractor's riser detail. Systems are straight water deluge, protec-o-wire (electric activation). There is a BF control valve at the header AND one on top of the deluge valve. Exhibit 7.8, page 210 of NFPA 13 2013 handbook shows something similar.
