A shame about the drunk with power AHJ, even when the requirement is good. When I get that kind of reply I'll always accept the I'm the boss answer but I do try to get them to help me understand the need. In the Puget Sound a coalition of contractors, all types effected (and some merely affected), and AHJs are writing a best practices guide for SFDs. It's working well to dispel some crazy stuff based on misinformation or a lack of knowledge from all parties regarding concerns of the other.
