Tony,

Never mind. I should have read everything. It says for Residential
Applications only.

Thank you,

Tony,

Viking had in their older data sheets a diagram that showed what I believe is
your scenario.

They haven’t showed this since, but it may still be applicable. A phone call
to their tech center might be worth it.

Thank you,

Subject: [Sprinklerforum] Sidewall sprinklers for sloped roofs

from NFPA 13, 2013

8.7.4.2 Deflector Orientation.
8.7.4.2.1 Deflectors of sprinklers shall be aligned parallel to
ceilings or roofs.
8.7.4.2.2 Sidewall sprinklers, where installed under a sloped
ceiling with a slope exceeding 2 in 12, shall be located at the
high point of the slope and positioned to discharge downward
along the slope.

This section has been in NFPA 13, for a long time and has continued onto the
current edition. As per this section, there is only one option for locating
sidewall sprinklers under a steeply sloped roof. At the peak. to discharge
downward along the slope.

I have a situation where the sloped piping is along a wall with the floor area
being covered with two sidewall sprinklers. The deflectors of both sprinklers
are installed parallel with the roof slope, positioned to discharge across the
slope. The uppermost sidewall is located within 3 feet of the peak. I have been
told that this configuration is incorrect as it is not permitted in NFPA 13.

Although it is not covered in NFPA, this orientation of sidewall sprinklers is
shown in the residential sprinkler installation guides of all major
manufacturers. Further, complying with 8.7.4.2 is problematic if the roof
slopes both ways with the peak at the high point.

Any thoughts / comments?

Tony
