From a side conversation I was having..

27.2.4.2.5 Does not discriminate.
33 says do it to EHII per 13. NFPA 33 9.2 something.
THEN it supersedes stating area of booth.

Nothing else changes.

You just now have less area.

.4/2500 = 1000

.4/1000(Insert booth size here) = 400

Chances are you will get the 400 or whatever. But I believe I remember having
to apply this very thing to a smaller/ish type boot.

But it is late Friday.

Booth types and construction differ greatly depending on if it is a
Semi-Trailer, or a smart car. 😊

Ok, but this would basically fall under the room design method in 13 then and
not require a phantom flow, unless I'm missing something, I have never added a
phantom flow to a paint booth.

Brett, I respectfully disagree. Well I agree but.

33 tells you how much.

The procedure is still per 13.

This is normally the case with other standards when it comes to performing
calcs or hanging etc.

Subject: [Sprinklerforum] Re: Paint Booths Calculation

In most cases the booth is smaller than the design area needs to be so every
booth I've ever designed has been every sprinkler in the booth and throughout
the plenum and exhaust, so you would be calculating the booth according to NFPA
33 not NFPA 13, the phantom flow is for NFPA 13 calculations

NFPA 33
9.6.2.1<http://9.6.2.1> The sprinkler design area shall not be required to
exceed the area of the booth or room in which spraying or resin application is
conducted.
9.6.5 The sprinkler system shall be controlled by a separate, listed indicating
valve(s), operable from floor level.
9.6.6
(6) The system demand shall include the discharge from the hydraulically most
remote adjacent sprinklers in a common 30.5 m (100 linear ft) area of duct
(horizontal and/or vertical).
(4) Sprinklers shall provide a minimum flow of 114 L/min (30 gpm) per sprinkler
at a minimum of 1 bar (15 psi) pressure.

As an additional note NFPA 2019: 26.4.1.3<http://26.4.1.3> says that the

the difference of flow?
