If anyone else has this problem, that would be the first thing I would try: disable that plugin. YMMV
Nope, wrong advise. You should do what I asked you to do twice: check your log files. They probably would have told you that the scanner crashed during the creation of the fulltext index. Which caused the search failure as well as the "infinite" scan duration.
