The "dumb computer generated one" is only as dumb as the tags it is populated with. Putting as much effort into the tags as you do into your tree potentially yields a lot more benefits, because it's a relational database rather than a flatfile database, which is what your music folder is. A tag-based database is just as useful for those who play an entire albums as it is for those who play random mixes.
Most of all, by using tags well you can have tracks with multiple genres, or search/browse by composer, conductor, or other characteristics. Of course, the big gotcha for classical music lovers is that most tagging schemes are poorly suited for classical music, but there are workarounds (see the wiki for some examples). I don't know about any hacks like you mention, but if you haven't looked at Erland's Custom Browse plugin you should - it might do what you need. -- aubuti ------------------------------------------------------------------------ aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39082 _______________________________________________ squeezenetwork mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/squeezenetwork
