erland,

I don't know what custom browse is. Do you mean some way to order stuff
by the Genre, Artist, Album tags? I know using iTunes and Windows Media
Player and what I have seen inside SlimServer that BMF is much easier
than any sort order based simply on the tags.

I have already given a few examples and said my structre is basically
like a record shop might lay out their music but it's as complicated as
I like so its hard to describe everything without writing for hours.

These are a few examples of the path to some cds..

\\Classical\Compilations\Horowitz in Moscow
\\Classical\Early Music\Gregorian Chant\Canto Gregoriano
\\Classical\Bach\Cantatas\Volume 6
\\Classical\Bach\Mass in B Minor
\\Modern\1960s\Kinks\You really got me
\\New Age\Hu Song Meditation

etc.

So I can easily and quickly build a coustom complex structure (I do
miss the ability to have shortcuts however in my tree).

For someone who can not or does not want to bother with editing tags
BMF is a great thing as long as they are 'advanced' enough to
understand directory structre. It's true that only a small percentage
of PC users are, which is why Apple decided to hide that completly from
the user, but it's still a big enough percentage to get excited about.
Frankly if you do not understand directories you are going to struggle
with Ripping Music and using a Squeezebox. For those users putting the
rip into the player the way iTunes and WMP do is vital so you don't
know or need to know where the music is going - and SlimServer does not
do that.

I do have the ability to edit tags (I wrote the software at
www.exceltagger.com as a hobby after buying a squeezebox) but for most
people it's a huge hassle and the structre above would be a nightmare
to fit into a few tags if it is even possible anyway.

Adding BMF with Album art should be trivial. It's not hard they just
have not thought about it.

Adding BFM with short cuts Windows Start Menu style would be harder
because they have to device how the shortcuts work (eg in Start Menu
there are shortcut files and you could just use that or use a config
file that describes everything).

Personally I wish I could go further and have the browse button go
directly to the BMF menu becuase people, even the girlfriend, get lost,
confused or frustrated messing around with all the other browse menus. I
have had a transporter for a year and yesterday played the same CD five
times and I asked why and said using the remote to select the music is
such a hassle. Combined with the mistake of turning the volume up and
down on the remote not the amp and I would the whole system is a total
mess but try explaning that to people here....
