If you like a very specific custom structure this is possible with Custom Browse, but it is a lot harder than with BMF.
Also, if it was a simple job to solve this problem someone would already have done it, so don't assume it's simple just because it looks simple from a user point of view. willyhoops;240835 Wrote: > As usual all the posts are defending the product and the staus quo at > all costs and failing to see my point. > > It's such a pain this forum. We often tend to direct people into the current "SlimServer way" instead of asking them why they like to do it in a specific way. I think SlimServer would really benefit if we tried to listen more to users and ask them why they like it to work a specific way. One cause for this is that people just expect someone else to do the work but aren't ready to pay for it. Many of the developers contributing to SlimServer are working for free on their spare time, so when people say that something is simple and just should be done this tend to irritate those that work for free and know for a fact that it isn't easy. However, we should also be aware of that Logitech (or former SlimDevices) has a huge lead in the user feedback area compared to Apple or Microsoft. When was the last time you saw the CEO of Apple or Microsoft participating in discussions their products on user forums with end users ? This was the case at SlimDevices and I believe it still is on the music streaming division of Logitech. Personally I have a feeling that: - BMF is really good if you like to browse your music one way, which basically works as long as you know what your are looking for when you start to browse. It's also a very flexible way to setup a custom structure of your library. - The standard SlimServer browsing methods is also good if you know what you are looking for and have a reasonable small library. It also offers you to browse your library in a few different ways which makes it a little bit better than BMF if you don't know what you are looking for. The thing that is missing in SlimServer IMHO are ways to browse your library to find stuff when you don't know exactly what you are looking for. I'm thinking of things like, most played artists, similar artists, similar albums, top rated artists. This is the problem which some of my plugins, such as TrackStat, Custom Browse and Custom Scan tries to solve. Why don't you try to explain a bit more in detail how your folder structure in BMF looks like so we can advice if tags are the correct way to go, or if BMF in fact is the best solution for you. -- erland Erland Isaksson 'My homepage' (http://erland.homeip.net) 'My download page' (http://erland.homeip.net/download) (Developer of 'TrackStat, SQLPlayList, DynamicPlayList, Custom Browse, Custom Scan, Custom Skip, Multi Library and Database Query plugins' (http://wiki.erland.homeip.net/index.php/Category:SlimServer)) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39082 _______________________________________________ squeezenetwork mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/squeezenetwork
