I am not a chemist, or a physicist, but yes the problem is always the
water, deionized or not. Water is the "electrolyte," which forms the
electrical bridge necessary to sustain galvanic action which is in turn
what causes dezincification. Somewhere I have a good scientific
description of the electrolytic process but can't find it at the moment.
