Harry, I am also no Chemist, but It does make me sit back and ask questions as to why does one brass boiler break down and another of the same age and usage by the same manufacturer still look like new?
For me Copper, and bronze silver soldered fittings is a must for a boiler, but I use brass screw in fittings, with a little graphite on the thread so I can get em out again without trouble. Well mostly without trouble. The demonstration effect always seems to prove hazardous. (I wonder if "Chemists" have a rule for that)?
