The reality is of course that folks are going to use what they want to
use. My own position, for which I should by now be notorious, is that as a
fairly experienced boiler builder, and by extension a teacher (to some
anyway), I cannot teach or agree that it's OK to use any old thing that's
lying around on the chance that it might be the right material. I
understand your plight completely however because I too am continually
keeping an eye out for sources of surplus material, as long as the material
for certain uses, boilers specifically, is new and verifiable.
