It's acid to water. David, I might also suggest, whern you begin doing something useful with that copper tube, that the steam created from an immediate quenching in cool water will blast away much of the black oxide and hardened flux which will accumulate as the copper cools from soldering temperature. This quench will considerably reduce the amount of work the pickle has to do and make for a better job in the long run. This does not harm the metal, but depending upon the conditions the steam created can propel hot water or jets of steam out of openings such as flues, so when quenching some care is needed to stay out of the line of flues in case there's a geyser.
