PS - Dave, because it's water-based, pickle solution won't usually remove oily residues. Anything oily on the metal will need to be removed with a deteregent or solvent before pickling or the oil will prevent the pickle getting to the metal. This doesn't apply to pickling right after a heat because the heat will have burned away any oils.
