Hi Deborah,
Just guessing that you are carving something soft
(alabaster, limestone, soft marble), have you tried
using a rondel, or bullnose chisel? If you can get it
into the spot you're working on, you can scrape with it.
If necessary you can even bend it, or make a scraper
with a bent shaft from scrap iron, and shape the
scraper's edge any way you want. Sanding is a little
different. If you cant get it with sandpaper wrapped on
your finger, maybe it doesn't need to be sanded there?
