As a slight modification of what Paul Rigby suggests,
the Italians use old grinding wheels as "sandpaper".
They cut the wheels up with diamond saws into
finger-sized slivers, whatever shape you need. Then
as you rub the grinding wheel piece on the stone being
finished, the grinding wheel piece takes the shape of
the stone. You can pre-shape the piece to some
extent. Start with a larger grit grinding wheel piece
and move smaller.
I find this especially useful in v-corners because,
while I can get sandpaper in there, it inevitably
wears out very quickly since such a small area is
making contact. The grinding stone piece, in
contrast, continually renews itself.
