The St. Paul Bill of Rights Defense Committee Resolution before the City Council is really largely symbolic. It won't take any funding away from our security funds in St. Paul. It's a way of informing this Administration that there are people in the country that recognize what they're trying to do to the Bill of Rights and that we already have enough laws and regs on the books to deal handily with terrorists, if law enforcement is allowed to use them.
Arno is right, this is exactly the way Hitler began his illustrious career of slaughter. We expect our civil rights to be untouchable by any Administration.
The Patriot Acts are a horrendous theft of our privacy rights, among others. Patriot Act I is on the books. They shelved Patriot Act II when it was evident that citizens were against it. However, part of it have been slipped into law a piece at a time by attaching them to other bills that have to be enacted, such as the budget bill, etc.
We will be joining 235 other cities all over the US in passing this Resolution.
