Boy, you people are stuck in the mud. Public financing is only one option. There are 100 other options. C'mon. Get past it.
Pat and Pam, the vote was on the City giving a subsidy to the Twins to locate here. Which, I have told you I am not in favor of personally. The vote was not on whether or not the stadium should be in St. Paul. Completely legitimate topic.
You right Renee, I was only dealing with stadiums that get public subsidies and / or public financing when I made my statements about keeping funding in mind. I see only two options. Public and Private. There may indeed by subsets (100's) of ways within each of those options.
If the owners allow the customer / user to get involved in a conversation, and I strongly urge that to happen, I hope you folks talk away and get what you want. However I've yet to see a discussion that didn't include public subsidy / financing and I hope we still keep in their face the idea that it is not wanted just to make sure other's fantasy doesn't slip into being my nightmare. A minimal precautionary move.
On the just feeling side of things I still don't like professional sports because of the bad example they set and the amount of time spent on them versus other issues. But that's more of a personal choice of mine. I also think the Olympics suck big time when they allowed professionals to play. They have no where the appeal they used to have when it was supposed to be amateurs only. Even if some of them were state sponsored. Again a personal choice.
Now if I was a user / customer?
I'd want open air football and baseball. That would be a given. Live with the weather. Retractable dome is an afterthought
Near by existing large modes of transportation (freeways or better yet forced use of public mass transit that will be used 'cause there is no parking lot - big picnic ground is ok.)
Multi use. Not two of these. Multi use for other stuff also as already noted.
Other wants could only be justified if it was publicly subsidized - alternative energy sources, etc
