NEAT - info about SPPS budget: http://tinyurl.com/3gt66 _________________________________________ I find the complaint filed by Mr. Schultz to be political in nature. It appears that he would be upset with the Mayor and Council if they attended the hockey game regardless of how they obtained their tickets. To me his complaint argues that city leaders shouldn't be involved in this type of activity. I completely disagree. I do understand state law and the purpose of it. Frankly I think it is too broad and limiting. It also doesn't prevent the abuses the law was designed to prevent. If I remember correctly, the NHL has control over the seats at this event. If that is the case, season ticket holders weren't guaranteed seats. Remember, the Wild sell out every game and most of these are to season ticket holders. Remember also that every NHL team has an allotment of tickets. This further limits the availability of local obtaining tickets. So the Minnesota Wild offered elected officials tickets for purchase out of their allotment. What is the big deal? Imagine the uproar if the Wild or NHL had given them tickets. This appears to be no more than a complaint filed for political reasons. Mike Fratto Payne Phalen

The Sting this time revolves around the Mayor's, and the Newbie Councilmembers also getting PREFERENTIAL treatment to get seats to the All Star Game. The mayor used Campaign funds to pay for the PREFERENTIAL, and the Newbie Councilmembers used either their Travel Budget (How far is it from the Como area to the Rivercenter?) or personal funds to get these special council and mayor only tickets. http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/news/local/8032479.htm David Shultz is after the Mayor and the Council for getting special benefits to be able to purchase tickets to the Game that others in the general public didn't get. While it doesn't surprise me that they Mayor got snagged, again, I am pretty surprised that Helgen got caught (especially after the very difficult campaign last year), Montgomery I am not that familiar with but I think she to should have known better or maybe found another council member to talk to about this Sweet Heart Deal for tickets to the game. The Wild Owners are very slick, and must be looking to bring down the Mayor and as many council members as they can, otherwise why would they offer these deals to them? Could they be setting them up? Sure seems like they are. Even if that wasn't their intent, that seems to be the result. Just when I was beginning to respect a greater percentage of the council they go and do this. Maybe one day they will learn.... YOU DO NOT GET SPECIAL PERKS CAUSE YOUR ON THE COUNCIL.... Maybe that should be part of the swearing in ceremony so they have a complete understanding. -- Sincerely, John Birrenbach [EMAIL PROTECTED] "Six years on the council has trained me to feign interest for long periods of time" Chris Coleman Jan 21, 2004 W 7th Neighborhood, St Paul MN Political & Business Consulting http://www.birrenbach.com/ Harmony Cedar Products: Quality Amish Furniture Products: http://www.harmonycedar.com _____________________________________________ SPPS Budget Reduction Forum - Feb. 23-27 Co-Sponsored By NEAT: http://www.stpaulneat.org/ _____________________________________________ NEW ADDRESS FOR LIST: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To subscribe, modify subscription, or get your password - visit: http://www.mnforum.org/mailman/listinfo/stpaul Archive Address: http://www.mnforum.org/mailman/private/stpaul/ _____________________________________________ SPPS Budget Reduction Forum - Feb. 23-27 Co-Sponsored By NEAT: http://www.stpaulneat.org/ _____________________________________________ NEW ADDRESS FOR LIST: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To subscribe, modify subscription, or get your password - visit: http://www.mnforum.org/mailman/listinfo/stpaul Archive Address: http://www.mnforum.org/mailman/private/stpaul/
