It sure is nice to be disagreeing with John again. This little love fest he and I have been having over the stadium has been weird. I want my elect officials to be ambassadors for the City. I want my elected officials, who are my representatives, to walk through the door of that Civic Center that tax payers paid for anytime they get the chance and not pay one plugged nickel for it, I already paid that share. I still want the "common man" to be elected to public office and be able to function at the same level as any of those with higher incomes at City events or promotional opportunities. Two Councilmembers can afford to be season ticket holders to the Wild and potentially had access to the event. Do we want that to be the determining factor as to which elected officials were shmoozing around the Xcel and talking up the City? I don't think the City should have paid for the tickets, I think that eight tickets should have been put aside for our representatives to be a part of the event. If only the wealthy can serve, than our democracy is doomed. Those who have plenty of disposable income will never be bothered by the "gift ban." Heck, in the outside business Pat Harris is in, he might (I have no inside info) be able to write off his hockey tickets as a business expense if he goes with a client or a potential client. That's the ticket folks. If you want your elected officials to be a part of community events that might cost money then make darned sure you elect those who have good outside employment. We'll clean up government! Give it to the rich!
