It was a civil meeting (sorry, no major outbursts) Packed chambers.
In my unbiased opinion he testimony of the pro ban side was most
convincing.
Pro ban:
Gary Schiff, mpls councilmember came over to let us know we weren't
alone.
Ventilation expert testified smoke filters don't eliminate carcinogens
Heart rending testimony from a cancer victim
Testimony from African American community about targetting minorities
by tobacco industry.
Youth testimony challenging us as adults.
2 MD's representing our largest health care providers - "please support
the ban"
and more
Pro tobacco side:
Bad for business
Not about health, about economics
Bars will shut down
Freedom of choice
Quit telling us what to do.
Don't believe statistics.
Smoking hasn't been proven to be a health risk.
The ordinance will be laid over now for 2 weeks, then amendments
considered. If any are made the vote will lay over another week before
it would be up for a vote.
Got a letter from Tempe AR Mayor debunking the convention bureau
assertion that the city regrets their ban. He says it is popular and
reports no bars out of business because of the ban.
Got a message from Roseville today. They are going to introduce one
next.

Hi All!
Am sure that some of us were at the hearing.
Initial feedback on eviiiillll talk radio is that the anti-smokes were
very rude
and the smokers were civil. Odd, I thought the smokers were the rude
ones!
Any alternative takes?

Never smoked (tobacco) but believes in letting businesses determine
their own
policy without politburo edicts.
