It strikes me that a Lee Atwater is a Lee Atwater, whether he calls himself liberal or conservative. I remember high school bullies 40-odd years ago who played "gotcha" and then said, "aw, can't you take a joke?" Mary is right that the tone in this forum must change. Sarcasm, condescension and patronizing will cripple free exchange of ideas. If I've been guilty, I truly apologize. Please let's all make 7/17 the day we put on our best duds and act our age.
