Tom certainly raises a legitimate question. However, in the interest of promoting a healthy discussion - I'd suggest that we take the emphasis off one individual and address the broader point.
We have a number of subscribers to this forum who live outside, but close to St. Paul. They all share an interest in St. Paul and are effected by policy decisions made in our city.
Clearly, residents of Roseville, Falcon Heights, Maplewood, and South St. Paul are affected by what happens in St. Paul. They have an real, but indirect stake in our elections and decision making - more so, than most of us have in the decisions made in our surrounding communities (based upon the size of our city).
So, if we're going to discuss the relevance of opinions from outside of St. Paul - I think it important that we NOT focus on one individual, as this is a much broader issue.
So, how to we handle the input or views of our close neighbors when we make policy? To what extent should they be included or allowed to participate in policy discussions? And, to what extent should we discount their opinions, because they pay taxes to another municipality?
Not sure if this would be a good/healthy discussion, but its something worth thinking about.
