Age and too many meetings are probably a greater impact as well as (in
the seventies) arriving home reeking of tobacco and booze :-)
the adult uses we were formerly plagued with encouraged sexual acting
out on the premises, whether manually in a viewing room or with a
massage professional on a mattress. additionally though, just standing
amidst an array of visibly graphic books or vhs boxes provides a venue
and thrill for many sex addicts.
the bottom line however is that adult uses have been legally recognized
as suitable for separate zoning by the courts. They may be separated
from residential, educational or religious uses and regulated by
distancing requirements from other adult uses. our past difficulties
have been in dealing with existing adult uses and their grandfathering
or phasing out over a period of years.
now would be a very good time to examine our current codes.
