"I'm wondering if anyone can point me to any public (or private) body the size of the St. Paul School District that does as suggested above - in the kind of detail suggested."

The point is, all organizations, public and private, larger and smaller than the St. Paul School district have those spreadsheets. I don't expect a private organization to share that info with me, but I do expect the public ones to, especially when they are claiming poverty and need more of my money. The fact that people have been asking for this information for years and it hasn't been forthcoming should tell us something. A cynic could say that it hasn't been published because the accounting is such a mess that it doesn't even exit. Others may say that it hasn't been made public because it would expose evidence of massive fraud and mis-management. I don't make those claims. But the fact that no one seems to have all the budget details and/or they refuse to release them doesn't pass the smell test IMHO. And like I say, I wouldn't mind at all about seeing those figures if they weren't constantly claiming poverty.

Subject: Re: [StPaul] School Finance Questions?

Until I see a detailed line-item school district budget, identifying all their sources of income and all their categories of expenses (both capital and operating), I can only assume that none exists.

I think that this assumption is a little too much. I've heard similar demands put upon the school district before.

I'm wondering if anyone can point me to any public (or private) body the size of the St. Paul School District that does as suggested above - in the kind of detail suggested.

Before I'm willing to suggest that the School District be held to such a high standard, I'd like to see examples of where else this is being done.

Anyone?
