That's all probably true to some extent, and the nature of
conditioning makes it hard to separate what might be free thought.

I have a reasonably large DVD collection up to about 2000-01, then I
stopped. When I considered the ROI on my owned movies, even movies I
really, really like, I may view them twice, three times. There are
exceptions, of course. I've played all 4 Alien movies to death, but
I've only seen Gangs of New York twice.

Music, on the other hand, plays all day in this house. My taste in
music wanders, so a handful of albums get played to death, then I
move on. Still, $10 for 200+ runs is decent. If it ends being
something I really enjoy, I don't want to lose it. OWU by Metric has
600+ plays =)

I do think it's fundamental differences in the way we use each
product that determines whether it makes more sense as a short or
long term purchase. I can think of a few albums that I probably
should have leased to own first.
