I'm not the OP, but we currently run most of our desktops on
Solaris/SPARC with Sun Rays and are looking at moving to either
Solaris/x86 or Linux/x86 (we've been very happy with SPARC hardware but
the value just isn't there).

My main concern with Solaris/x86 is lack of application support.  For
example, Adobe has told me that they no longer support Solaris and
there will be no future updates of software such as Adobe Reader for
this platform.  Our backup software, Arkeia, does not have a client for
Solaris/x86.  I have also found that it's a lot easier to get many free
software packages built for Linux than it is for Solaris.

I really like Solaris, and Linux still feels like a toy compared with
it, but these issues may end up forcing us to use Linux.
