Simple answer is YES. Consumed energy is always turned into heat even if not immediately. May initially come out as photons, sound waves or whatever, but in the end always gets transformed to heat one way or another. Physics says so.

Some small portion of it doesn't get necessarily turned into heat in the room where the equipment is located. The physics you're quoting applies strictly to closed systems.

Ok Sridhar, I'll bite. What of that energy *doesn't* get turned into heat? Any generated noise will hit the walls and turn into heat via mechanical friction as vibrations are absorbed, any emitted light (say, from the LEDs) will strike the walls or other objects and dissipate as heat, etc etc.

Oh, and I'll see you in a day or two! :) The truck containing your VAX-7000 and PDP-11/70 is within view of my hotel room window as I type this..
