I also had a dead S900 with black screen. I tried many, many things and eventually had removed all RAM and disconnected most cards and peripherals. Then, I restored my original daughter card with 604e. After a CUDA reset of a long 3 seconds, I powered up and magically it fully rebooted. Then I put my G3 back in, did the CUDA reset, and it also fully rebooted. I had replaced my power supply and PRAM battery, but the initial symptoms with the new power supply were the same. As someone else on this list theorized, there may be some kind of hardware reset that only a 604e can perform. Once that reset has occurred, G3 and other new hardware (like your new SCSI drive) can work. So, if you haven't done it already, I would suggest you try temporarily restoring your 604e.
