Could this be the black screen o' death? Is there an E100 card involved? I'm going to butt in here and have you try the following, it can't hurt and might be just the ticket... Zap the PRAM immediately after a restart (or immediately upon startup) BEFORE the usual startup chime sounds. You have to be quick and hold down the "command+option+P+R" keys until you hear a chime.
