Actually, while the E100 is usually associated with the "black screen 
'O death" the actual culprit is PowerLogix's E100 Enabler.  It was 
swell of them to write it for us but it has that one bug in concert 
with disabling speculative processing where it causes the machine to 
freeze at the black screen.  So the actual question is whether you 
have the PowerLogix E100 Enabler installed in your extensions folder, 
or have you ever had it installed?


However, the above problem falls into the broader category of corrupt 
NVRAM.   Unplugging your machine and removing the battery for a 
period to drain all charge and reset the NVRAM should take care of 
all such potential problems.  I can't remember if you've done that 
already or not, but it should be on your list of things to try.
